Mrs.MalinswashelpeddownthefrontstepsbyhersonandMr.Browneand,aftermanymanoeuvres,hoistedintothecab.FreddyMalinsclamberedinafterherandspentalongtimesettlingherontheseat,Mr.Brownehelpinghimwithadvice.AtlastshewassettledcomfortablyandFreddyMalinsinvitedMr.Browneintothecab.Therewasagooddealofconfusedtalk,andthenMr.Brownegotintothecab.Thecabmansettledhisrugoverhisknees,andbentdownfortheaddress.TheconfusiongrewgreaterandthecabmanwasdirecteddifferentlybyFreddyMalinsandMr.Browne,eachofwhomhadhisheadoutthroughawindowofthecab.ThedifficultywastoknowwheretodropMr.Brownealongtheroute,andAuntKate,AuntJuliaandMaryJanehelpedthediscussionfromthedoorstepwithcross-directionsandcontradictionsandabundanceoflaughter.AsforFreddyMalinshewasspeechlesswithlaughter.Hepoppedhisheadinandoutofthewindoweverymomenttothegreatdangerofhishat,andtoldhismotherhowthediscussionwasprogressing,tillatlastMr.Browneshoutedtothebewilderedcabmanabovethedinofeverybody’slaughter:
“DoyouknowTrinityCollege?”
“Yes,sir,”saidthecabman.
