           Afterbeatingalittletuneonhischinashewalkedon,withthetwoforefingersofhisskeletonrighthand,headded:

           ‘Thereareexpressions,yousee,MasterCopperfieldLatinwordsandtermsinMr.Tidd,thataretryingtoareaderofmyumbleattainments.’

           ‘WouldyouliketobetaughtLatin?’Isaidbriskly.‘Iwillteachityouwithpleasure,asIlearnit.’

           ‘Oh,thankyou,MasterCopperfield,’heanswered,shakinghishead.‘Iamsureit’sverykindofyoutomaketheoffer,butIammuchtooumbletoacceptit.’

           ‘Whatnonsense,Uriah!’

           ‘Oh,indeedyoumustexcuseme,MasterCopperfield!Iamgreatlyobliged,andIshouldlikeitofallthings,Iassureyou;butIamfartooumble.
