           ‘Oh,youcruel,cruelboy,tosayIamadisagreeablewife!’criedDora.

           ‘Now,mydearDora,youmustknowthatIneversaidthat!’

           ‘Yousaid,Iwasn’tcomfortable!’criedDora.‘Isaidthehousekeepingwasnotcomfortable!’

           ‘It’sexactlythesamething!’criedDora.Andsheevidentlythoughtso,forsheweptmostgrievously.

           Itookanotherturnacrosstheroom,fullofloveformyprettywife,anddistractedbyself-accusatoryinclinationstoknockmyheadagainstthedoor.Isatdownagain,andsaid:

           ‘Iamnotblamingyou,Dora.Wehavebothagreatdealtolearn.Iamonlytryingtoshowyou,mydear,thatyoumustyoureallymust’(Iwasresolvednottogivethisup)‘accustomyourselftolookafterMaryAnne.
