Thebargainmightappearunequal;buttherewasstillanotherconsiderationinthescales; forwhileJekyllwouldsuffersmartinglyinthefiresofabstinence,Hydewouldbenotevenconsciousofallthathehadlost. Strangeasmycircumstanceswere,thetermsofthisdebateareasoldandcommonplaceasman; muchthesameinducementsandalarmscastthedieforanytemptedandtremblingsinner; anditfelloutwithme,asitfallswithsovastamajorityofmyfellows,thatIchosethebetterpartandwasfoundwantinginthestrengthtokeeptoit.
