Queequeg in His Coffin

           Overhearingtheindignantbuthalf-humorouscrieswithwhichthepeopleondeckbegantodrivethecoffinaway,Queequeg,toeveryone’sconsternation,commandedthatthethingshouldbeinstantlybroughttohim,norwasthereanydenyinghim;seeingthat,ofallmortals,somedyingmenarethemosttyrannical;andcertainly,sincetheywillshortlytroubleussolittleforevermore,thepoorfellowsoughttobeindulged.

           Leaningoverinhishammock,Queequeglongregardedthecoffinwithanattentiveeye.Hethencalledforhisharpoon,hadthewoodenstockdrawnfromit,andthenhadtheironpartplacedinthecoffinalongwithoneofthepaddlesofhisboat.
