           "Now,"quothLittleJohn,"thyvoiceisrightroundandsweet,jollylad.Idoubtnotthoucanstsingaballadmostblithely;canstthounot?"

           "Truly,Ihavetrolledonenowandthen,"quoththeCook,"yetIwouldnotsingalone."

           "Nay,truly,"saidLittleJohn,"thatwerebutillcourtesy.Strikeupthyditty,andIwillafterwardsingonetomatchit,ifIcan.

           "Sobeit,prettyboy,"quoththeCook.
