Fromhimmyeyestravelledtohisthreemen;andastrangecrewtheywere.Isawonlytheirfaces,yettherewassomethingintheirfaces—Iknewnotwhat—thatgavemeaqueerspasmofdisgust.Ilookedsteadilyatthem,andtheimpressiondidnotpass,thoughIfailedtoseewhathadoccasionedit.Theyseemedtomethentobebrownmen;buttheirlimbswereoddlyswathedinsomethin,dirty,whitestuffdowneventothefingersandfeet:Ihaveneverseenmensowrappedupbefore,andwomensoonlyintheEast.Theyworeturbanstoo,andthereunderpeeredouttheirelfinfacesatme,—faceswithprotrudinglower-jawsandbrighteyes.Theyhadlankblackhair,almostlikehorsehair,andseemedastheysattoexceedinstatureanyraceofmenIhaveseen.Thewhite-hairedman,whoIknewwasagoodsixfeetinheight,sataheadbelowanyoneofthethree.Ifoundafterwardsthatreallynoneweretallerthanmyself;buttheirbodieswereabnormallylong,andthethigh-partofthelegshortandcuriouslytwisted.Atanyrate,theywereanamazinglyuglygang,andovertheheadsofthemundertheforwardlugpeeredtheblackfaceofthemanwhoseeyeswereluminousinthedark.
