Montgomery’smovementtofollowmereleasedmyattention,andIturnedandlookedaboutmeattheflushdeckofthelittleschooner.IwasalreadyhalfpreparedbythesoundsIhadheardforwhatIsaw.CertainlyIneverbeheldadecksodirty.Itwaslitteredwithscrapsofcarrot,shredsofgreenstuff,andindescribablefilth.Fastenedbychainstothemainmastwereanumberofgrislystaghounds,whonowbeganleapingandbarkingatme,andbythemizzenahugepumawascrampedinalittleironcagefartoosmalleventogiveitturningroom.
