           ‘Why,itISdifficult,sir,Iconfess,’saidthetallfootman.‘Itmaybedonebydegrees,Sir.Coffeeisthebestpractice.Icarriedcoffee,Sir,foralongtime.Itlooksverylikerappee,sir.’

           Here,asharppealatthebellreducedthepowdered-headedfootmantotheignominiousnecessityofputtingthefox’sheadinhispocket,andhasteningwithahumblecountenancetoMr.Bantam’s‘study.’Bythebye,whoeverknewamanwhoneverreadorwroteeither,whohadn’tgotsomesmallbackparlourwhichheWOULDcallastudy!

           ‘Thereistheanswer,sir,’saidthepowdered-headedfootman.‘I’mafraidyou’llfinditinconvenientlylarge.’

           ‘Don’tmentionit,’saidSam,takingaletterwithasmallenclosure.‘It’sjustpossibleasexhaustednatur’maymanagetosurwiveit.’

           ‘Ihopeweshallmeetagain,Sir,’saidthepowdered-headedfootman,rubbinghishands,andfollowingSamouttothedoor-step.

           ‘Youareweryobligin’,sir,’repliedSam.‘Now,don’tallowyourselftobefatiguedbeyondyourpowers;there’saamiablebein’.
