           Nothingworthyofspecialmentionoccurredduringthejourney.Mr.Dowlerrelatedavarietyofanecdotes,allillustrativeofhisownpersonalprowessanddesperation,andappealedtoMrs.Dowlerincorroborationthereof;whenMrs.Dowlerinvariablybroughtin,intheformofanappendix,someremarkablefactorcircumstancewhichMr.Dowlerhadforgotten,orhadperhapsthroughmodesty,omitted;fortheaddendaineveryinstancewenttoshowthatMr.Dowlerwasevenamorewonderfulfellowthanhemadehimselfouttobe.Mr.PickwickandMr.Winklelistenedwithgreatadmiration,andatintervalsconversedwithMrs.Dowler,whowasaveryagreeableandfascinatingperson.So,whatbetweenMr.Dowler’sstories,andMrs.Dowler’scharms,andMr.Pickwick’sgood-humour,andMr.Winkle’sgoodlistening,theinsidescontrivedtobeverycompanionablealltheway.Theoutsidesdidasoutsidesalwaysdo.Theywereverycheerfulandtalkativeatthebeginningofeverystage,andverydismalandsleepyinthemiddle,andverybrightandwakefulagaintowardstheend.
