Thislittledivergencefromthesubjectinhand,had,ofcourse,theintendedeffectofturningalleyestoMr.Pickwick.SerjeantBuzfuz,havingpartiallyrecoveredfromthestateofmoralelevationintowhichhehadlashedhimself,resumed—
‘Ishallshowyou,gentlemen,thatfortwoyears,Pickwickcontinuedtoresideconstantly,andwithoutinterruptionorintermission,atMrs.Bardell’shouse.IshallshowyouthatMrs.Bardell,duringthewholeofthattime,waitedonhim,attendedtohiscomforts,cookedhismeals,lookedouthislinenforthewasherwomanwhenitwentabroad,darned,aired,andprepareditforwear,whenitcamehome,and,inshort,enjoyedhisfullesttrustandconfidence.
