           ‘Asthegoblinsaidthis,athickcloudwhichobscuredtheremoterendofthecavernrolledgraduallyaway,anddisclosed,apparentlyatagreatdistance,asmallandscantilyfurnished,butneatandcleanapartment.Acrowdoflittlechildrenweregatheredroundabrightfire,clingingtotheirmother’sgown,andgambollingaroundherchair.Themotheroccasionallyrose,anddrewasidethewindow-curtain,asiftolookforsomeexpectedobject;afrugalmealwasreadyspreaduponthetable;andanelbowchairwasplacednearthefire.Aknockwasheardatthedoor;themotheropenedit,andthechildrencrowdedroundher,andclappedtheirhandsforjoy,astheirfatherentered.Hewaswetandweary,andshookthesnowfromhisgarments,asthechildrencrowdedroundhim,andseizinghiscloak,hat,stick,andgloves,withbusyzeal,ranwiththemfromtheroom.
