           ‘Asthegoblinlaughed,thesextonobserved,foroneinstant,abrilliantilluminationwithinthewindowsofthechurch,asifthewholebuildingwerelightedup;itdisappeared,theorganpealedforthalivelyair,andwholetroopsofgoblins,theverycounterpartofthefirstone,pouredintothechurchyard,andbeganplayingatleap-frogwiththetombstones,neverstoppingforaninstanttotakebreath,but"overing"thehighestamongthem,oneaftertheother,withthemostmarvellousdexterity.Thefirstgoblinwasamostastonishingleaper,andnoneoftheotherscouldcomenearhim;evenintheextremityofhisterrorthesextoncouldnothelpobserving,thatwhilehisfriendswerecontenttoleapoverthecommon-sizedgravestones,thefirstonetookthefamilyvaults,ironrailingsandall,withasmucheaseasiftheyhadbeensomanystreet-posts.

           ‘Atlastthegamereachedtoamostexcitingpitch;theorganplayedquickerandquicker,andthegoblinsleapedfasterandfaster,coilingthemselvesup,rollingheadoverheelsupontheground,andboundingoverthetombstoneslikefootballs.
