Mrs.Nupkins’stearscontinuedtogushforth,withgreatvelocity,untilshehadgainedalittletimetothinkthematterover;whenshedecided,inherownmind,thatthebestthingtodowouldbetoaskMr.Pickwickandhisfriendstoremainuntilthecaptain’sarrival,andthentogiveMr.Pickwicktheopportunityhesought.Ifitappearedthathehadspokentruly,thecaptaincouldbeturnedoutofthehousewithoutnoisingthematterabroad,andtheycouldeasilyaccounttothePorkenhamsforhisdisappearance,bysayingthathehadbeenappointed,throughtheCourtinfluenceofhisfamily,tothegovernor-generalshipofSierraLeone,ofSaugurPoint,oranyotherofthosesalubriousclimateswhichenchantEuropeanssomuch,thatwhentheyoncegetthere,theycanhardlyeverprevailuponthemselvestocomebackagain.
