           ‘Myattachmenttoyourperson,sir,’saidMr.Tupman,speakinginavoicetremulouswithemotion,andtuckinguphiswristbandsmeanwhile,‘isgreatverygreatbutuponthatperson,Imusttakesummaryvengeance.’

           ‘Comeon,Sir!’repliedMr.Pickwick.Stimulatedbytheexcitingnatureofthedialogue,theheroicmanactuallythrewhimselfintoaparalyticattitude,confidentlysupposedbythetwobystanderstohavebeenintendedasapostureofdefence.

           ‘What!’exclaimedMr.Snodgrass,suddenlyrecoveringthepowerofspeech,ofwhichintenseastonishmenthadpreviouslyberefthim,andrushingbetweenthetwo,attheimminenthazardofreceivinganapplicationonthetemplefromeach—‘what!Mr.Pickwick,withtheeyesoftheworlduponyou!Mr.Tupman!who,incommonwithusall,derivesalustrefromhisundyingname!Forshame,gentlemen;forshame.
