           Herethelittlemanindulgedinaconvulsionofmirth,whichwasonlycheckedbytheentranceofathirdparty.

           Thiswasatall,thinman,withasandy-colouredheadinclinedtobaldness,andafaceinwhichsolemnimportancewasblendedwithalookofunfathomableprofundity.Hewasdressedinalongbrownsurtout,withablackclothwaistcoat,anddrabtrousers.Adoubleeyeglassdangledathiswaistcoat;andonhisheadheworeaverylow-crownedhatwithabroadbrim.Thenew-comerwasintroducedtoMr.PickwickasMr.Pott,theeditoroftheEatanswillGAZETTE.Afterafewpreliminaryremarks,Mr.PottturnedroundtoMr.Pickwick,andsaidwithsolemnity

           ‘Thiscontestexcitesgreatinterestinthemetropolis,sir?’
