Mr.Pickwickstoodintheprincipalstreetofthisillustrioustown,andgazedwithanairofcuriosity,notunmixedwithinterest,ontheobjectsaroundhim.Therewasanopensquareforthemarket-place;andinthecentreofit,alargeinnwithasign-postinfront,displayinganobjectverycommoninart,butrarelymetwithinnature—towit,abluelion,withthreebowlegsintheair,balancinghimselfontheextremepointofthecentreclawofhisfourthfoot.
