           ‘Edmunds,however,hadbeensentaconsiderabledistanceupthecountryonhisarrivalatthesettlement;andtothiscircumstance,perhaps,maybeattributedthefact,thatthoughseverallettersweredespatched,noneofthemeverreachedmyhands.Heremainedinthesameplaceduringthewholefourteenyears.
