Thefatboy,withelephantineplayfulness,stretchedouthisarmstoravishakiss;butasitrequirednogreatagilitytoeludehim,hisfairenslaverhadvanishedbeforeheclosedthemagain;uponwhichtheapatheticyouthateapoundorsoofsteakwithasentimentalcountenance,andfellfastasleep.
Therewassomuchtosayupstairs,andthereweresomanyplanstoconcertforelopementandmatrimonyintheeventofoldWardlecontinuingtobecruel,thatitwantedonlyhalfanhourofdinnerwhenMr.Snodgrasstookhisfinaladieu.TheladiesrantoEmily’sbedroomtodress,andthelover,takinguphishat,walkedoutoftheroom.
