AsMr.Smangleshookhisheadinaconfidentialandsympathisingmanneratthisjuncture,Mr.Pickwickfeltthathewasexpectedtosaysomething,sohesaid,‘Ah!’andlookedrestlesslyatthedoor.
‘Ah!’echoedMr.Smangle,withalong-drawnsigh.‘He’sdelightfulcompany,thatmanis,sir.Idon’tknowbettercompanyanywhere;buthehasthatonedrawback.Iftheghostofhisgrandfather,Sir,wastorisebeforehimthisminute,he’daskhimfortheloanofhisacceptanceonaneightpennystamp.
