           Ithadindeedbeenbloody,fortheyhaddrawnoffandjoinedourotherthreeboatsintheattackontheremainingtwooftheenemy.Thedesertedboatwasinthetroughofthesea,rollingdrunkenlyacrosseachcomber,itsloosespritsailoutatrightanglestoitandflutteringandflappinginthewind.Thehunterandboat-pullerwerebothlyingawkwardlyinthebottom,buttheboat-steererlayacrossthegunwale,halfinandhalfout,hisarmstrailinginthewaterandhisheadrollingfromsidetoside.

           "Don’tlook,MissBrewster,pleasedon’tlook,"Ihadbeggedofher,andIwasgladthatshehadmindedmeandbeensparedthesight.

           "Headrightintothebunch,Mr.VanWeyden,"wasWolfLarsen’scommand.
