OurnameisEquality7-2521,asitiswrittenontheironbraceletwhichallmenwearontheirleftwristswiththeirnamesuponit.Wearetwenty-oneyearsold.Wearesixfeettall,andthisisaburden,fortherearenotmanymenwhoaresixfeettall.EverhavetheTeachersandtheLeaderspointedtousandfrownedandsaid:
“Thereisevilinyourbones,Equality7-2521,foryourbodyhasgrownbeyondthebodiesofyourbrothers.”Butwecannotchangeourbonesnorourbody.
Wewerebornwithacurse.Ithasalwaysdrivenustothoughtswhichareforbidden.Ithasalwaysgivenuswisheswhichmenmaynotwish.Weknowthatweareevil,butthereisnowillinusandnopowertoresistit.Thisisourwonderandoursecretfear,thatweknowanddonotresist.
