May17. —Isawsomepiecesofthewreckblownonshore,atagreatdistance,neartwomilesoffme,butresolvedtoseewhattheywere,andfounditwasapieceofthehead,buttooheavyformetobringaway.
May24. —EverydaytothisdayIworkedonthewreck,andwithhardlaborIloosenedsomethingssomuchwiththecrowthatthefirstblowingtideseveralcasksfloatedout,andtwooftheseamen’schests. Butthewindblowingfromtheshore,nothingcametolandthatdaybutpiecesoftimber,andahogshead,whichhadsomebrazilporkinit,butthesaltwaterandthesandhadspoiledit.

AndbythistimeIhadgottentimber,andplank,andiron-workenoughtohavebuildedagoodboat,ifIhadknownhow; andalso,Igotatseveraltimes,andinseveralpieces,nearonehundredweightofthesheet-lead.
