Iknockedpiecesintothewalloftherocktohangmygunsandallthingsthatwouldhangup; sothathadmycavebeentobeseen,itlookedlikeageneralmagazineofallnecessarythings; andIhadeverythingsoreadyatmyhand,thatitwasagreatpleasuretometoseeallmygoodsinsuchorder,andespeciallytofindmystockofallnecessariessogreat.
AndnowitwaswhenIbegantokeepajournalofeveryday’semployment; for,indeed,atfirst,Iwasintoomuchhurry,andnotonlyhurryastolabor,butintoomuchdiscomposureofmind;andmyjournalwouldhavebeenfullofmanydullthings. Forexample,Imusthavesaidthus: Septemberthe30th. —AfterIgottoshore,andhadescapeddrowning,insteadofbeingthankfultoGodformydeliverance,havingfirstvomitedwiththegreatquantityofsaltwaterwhichwasgottenintomystomach,andrecoveringmyselfalittle,Iranabouttheshore, wringingmyhands,andbeatingmyheadandface,exclaimingatmymisery,andcryingout,Iwasundone,undone,till,tiredandfaint,Iwasforcedtoliedownonthegroundtorepose; butdurstnotsleep,forfearofbeingdevoured.
Somedaysafterthis,andafterIhadbeenonboardtheshipandgotallthatIcouldoutofher,yetIcouldnotforbeargettinguptothetopofalittlemountain,andlookingouttosea,inhopesofseeingaship; thenfancyatavastdistanceIspiedasail,pleasemyselfwiththehopesofit, andthen,afterlookingsteadilytillIwasalmostblind,loseitquite,andsitdownandweeplikeachild,andthusincreasemymiserybymyfolly.
