AndnowIthoughtmyselfprettywellfrighted,andbegantothinkhowIshouldgettoshorewiththem,havingneithersail,oar,norrudder;andtheleastcapfulofwindwouldhaveoversetallmynavigation.

Andthus,havingfoundtwoorthreebrokenoarsbelongingtotheboat,andbesidesthetoolswhichwereinthechest,Ifoundtwosaws,anaxe,andahammer,andwiththiscargoIputtosea. Foramileorthereaboutsmyraftwentverywell,onlythatIfounditdrivealittledistantfromtheplacewhereIhadlandedbefore, bywhichIperceivedthattherewassomeindraftofwater,andconsequentlyIhopedtofindsomecreekorriverthere,whichImightmakeuseofasaporttogettolandwithmycargo.
AsIimagined,soitwas; thereappearedbeforemealittleopeningoftheland,andIfoundastrongcurrentofthetidesetintoit,soIguidedmyraftaswellasIcouldtokeepinthemiddleofthestream.
