Accordinglywewentonboard,tookthearmswhichwereleftonboardoutofher,andwhateverelsewefoundthere,whichwasabottleofbrandy,andanotherofrum,afewbiscuit-cakes,ahornofpowder,andagreatlumpofsugarinapieceofcanvas–thesugarwasfiveorsixpounds; allwhichwasverywelcometome,especiallythebrandyandsugar,ofwhichIhadhadnoneleftformanyyears.
Whenwehadcarriedallthesethingsonshore(theoars,mast,sail,andrudderoftheboatwerecarriedawaybefore,asabove),weknockedagreatholeinherbottomthatiftheyhadcomestrongenoughtomasterus,yettheycouldnotcarryofftheboat.
Indeed,itwasnotmuchinmythoughtsthatwecouldbeabletorecovertheship; butmyviewwas,thatiftheywentawaywithouttheboatIdidnotmuchquestiontomakeherfitagaintocarryusawaytotheLeewardIslands,andcalluponourfriendstheSpaniardsinmyway;forIhadthemstillinmythoughts.
