           Iobservedthatthetwowhoswamwereyetmorethantwiceaslongswimmingoverthecreekasthefellowwasthatfledfromthem. Itcamenowverywarmlyuponmythoughts,andindeed,irresistibly,thatnowwasmytimetogetmeaservant,andperhapsacompanionassistant,andthatIwascalledplainlybyProvidencetosavethispoorcreature’slife. Iimmediatelyrundowntheladderswithallpossibleexpedition,fetchedmytwoguns,fortheywerebothbutatthefootoftheladders,asIobservedabove,andgettingupagain,withthesamehaste,tothetopofthehill,Icrossedtowardsthesea, andhavingaveryshortcut,andalldownhill,clappedmyselfinthewaybetweenthepursuersandthepursued,hallooingaloudtohimthatfled,who,lookingback,wasatfirstperhapsasmuchfrightedatmeasatthem; butIbeckonedwithmyhandstohimtocomeback;
