InmywickerwarealsoIimprovedmuch,andmadeabundanceofnecessarybaskets,aswellasmyinventionshowedme; thoughnotveryhandsome,yettheyweresuchaswereveryhandyandconvenientformylayingthingsupin,orfetchingthingshomein. Forexample,ifIkilledagoatabroad,Icouldhangitupinatree,flayit,anddressit,andcutitinpieces,andbringithomeinabasket; andthelikebyaturtle; Icouldcutitup,takeouttheeggs,andapieceortwooftheflesh,whichwasenoughforme,andbringthemhomeinabasket,andleavetherestbehindme. Also,largedeepbasketsweremyreceiversformycorn,whichIalwaysrubbedoutassoonasitwasdry,andcured,andkeptitingreatbaskets.
Ibegannowtoperceivemypowderabatedconsiderably,andthiswasawantwhichitwasimpossibleformetosupply,andIbeganseriouslytoconsiderwhatImustdowhenIshouldhavenomorepowder;thatistosay,howIshoulddotokillanygoats. Ihad,asitobserved,inthethirdyearofmybeinghere,keptayoungkid,andbredheruptame,andIwasinhopeofgettingahe-goat. ButIcouldnotbyanymeansbringittopass,tillmykidgrewanoldgoat; andIcouldneverfinditinmyhearttokillher,tillshediesatlastofmereage.
