Therewasnothingsoveryremarkableinthat;nordidAlicethinkitsoverymuchoutofthewaytoheartheRabbitsaytoitself, ‘Ohdear!Ohdear!Ishallbelate!’ (whenshethoughtitoverafterwards,itoccurredtoherthatsheoughttohavewonderedatthis, butatthetimeitallseemedquitenatural); butwhentheRabbitactuallytookawatchoutofitswaistcoat-pocket,andlookedatit,andthenhurriedon, Alicestartedtoherfeet,foritflashedacrosshermind thatshehadneverbeforeseenarabbitwitheitherawaistcoat-pocket,orawatchtotakeoutofit, andburningwithcuriosity,sheranacrossthefieldafterit, andfortunatelywasjustintimetoseeitpopdownalargerabbit-holeunderthehedge.
InanothermomentdownwentAliceafterit, neveronceconsideringhowintheworldshewastogetoutagain.
Therabbit-holewentstraightonlikeatunnelforsomeway, andthendippedsuddenlydown, sosuddenlythatAlicehadnotamomenttothinkaboutstoppingherselfbeforeshefoundherselffallingdownaverydeepwell.
