           Nowthatverystoneformedthecentreofavastspacethrashedaroundbythemountainoushorror,whilstuponitsslightlyconcavesurfacewasathickandfoetiddepositofthesametarrystickinessobservedontheflooroftheruinedWhateleyfarmhousewhenthehorrorescaped.Menlookedatoneanotherandmuttered.Thentheylookeddownthehill. Apparentlythehorrorhaddescendedbyaroutemuchthesameasthatofitsascent.Tospeculatewasfutile. Reason,logic,andnormalideasofmotivationstoodconfounded.OnlyoldZebulon,whowasnotwiththegroup,couldhavedonejusticetothesituationorsuggestedaplausibleexplanation.
