           Itappeared,indeed,fromthecountenanceofthisproprietor,thathewasofafrank,buthastyandcholerictemper.Hewasnotabovethemiddlestature,butbroad-shouldered,long-armed,andpowerfullymade,likeoneaccustomedtoendurethefatigueofwarorofthechase;hisfacewasbroad,withlargeblueeyes,openandfrankfeatures,fineteeth,andawellformedhead,altogetherexpressiveofthatsortofgood-humourwhichoftenlodgeswithasuddenandhastytemper.Prideandjealousytherewasinhiseye,forhislifehadbeenspentinassertingrightswhichwereconstantlyliabletoinvasion;andtheprompt,fiery,andresolutedispositionoftheman,hadbeenkeptconstantlyuponthealertbythecircumstancesofhissituation.Hislongyellowhairwasequallydividedonthetopofhisheadanduponhisbrow,andcombeddownoneachsidetothelengthofhisshoulders;ithadbutlittletendencytogrey,althoughCedricwasapproachingtohissixtiethyear.
