Shesaidshewoulddoherbestbyhim,because,whetherhewasgood,bad,orindifferent,hewastheLord’s,andnothingthatwastheLord’swasathingtobeneglected. TheWelshmansaidHuckhadgoodspotsinhim,andthewidowsaid:

Threedreadfuldaysandnightsdraggedtheirtedioushoursalong,andthevillagesankintoahopelessstupor. Noonehadheartforanything.
