           Itwasdifficultenoughtofindthewayamongthegroupsoftrees,withoutanybeatentrack.Sothesailorfromtimetotimebrokeoffbrancheswhichmightbeeasilyrecognized.But,perhaps,hewaswrongnottofollowthewatercourse,asheandHerberthaddoneontheirfirstexcursion,forafterwalkinganhournotacreaturehadshownitself.Top,runningunderthebranches,onlyrousedbirdswhichcouldnotbeapproached.Eventhecouroucouswereinvisible,anditwasprobablethatthesailorwouldbeobligedtoreturntothemarshypartoftheforest,inwhichhehadsohappilyperformedhisgrousefishing.
