           OfthetreasurescontainedinthecofferleftbyCaptainNemotothecolonistsofLincolnIsland,thelargerportionwasemployedinthepurchaseofavastterritoryintheStateofIowa.Onepearlalone,thefinest,wasreservedfromthetreasureandsenttoLadyGlenarvaninthenameofthecastawaysrestoredtotheircountrybythe"Duncan."

           There,uponthisdomain,thecolonistsinvitedtolabor,thatistosay,towealthandhappiness,allthosetowhomtheyhadhopedtoofferthehospitalityofLincolnIsland.TherewasfoundedavastcolonytowhichtheygavethenameofthatislandsunkbeneaththewatersofthePacific.ArivertherewascalledtheMercy,amountaintookthenameofMountFranklin,asmalllakewasnamedLakeGrant,andtheforestsbecametheforestsoftheFarWest.Itmighthavebeenanislandonterrafirma.

           There,undertheintelligenthandsoftheengineerandhiscompanions,everythingprospered.NotoneoftheformercolonistsofLincolnIslandwasabsent,fortheyhadsworntolivealwaystogether
