           ThesesimplewordsprofoundlyimpressedCyrusHardingandhiscompanions.Theengineerrose.

           "Weaskyounothing,myfriend,"saidhe;"itisyourrighttobesilent."

           "Itismydutytospeak."

           "Sitdown,then."

           "No,Iwillstand."

           "Wearereadytohearyou,"repliedHarding.

           Thestrangerremainedstandinginacorneroftheroom,alittleintheshade.
