Fortwodayswemadeourwayupagood-sizedriversomehundredsofyardsbroad,anddarkincolor,buttransparent,sothatonecouldusuallyseethebottom.TheaffluentsoftheAmazonare,halfofthem,ofthisnature,whiletheotherhalfarewhitishandopaque,thedifferencedependingupontheclassofcountrythroughwhichtheyhaveflowed.
