           ButKingArthurwithagreatfleetsailedroundtheriversandbesiegedtheminthelakeforfifteendays,sothatmanythousandsdiedofhunger.

           AnontheKingofIrelandcamewithanarmytorelievethem;butArthur,turningonhimfiercely,routedhim,andcompelledhimtoretreatinterrortohisland.Thenhepursuedhispurpose,whichwasnolesstodestroytheraceofPictsandScots,who,beyondmemory,hadbeenaceaselesstormenttotheBritonsbytheirbarbarousmalice.

           Thenturnedhebacktohisownrealm,andcametoYorkforChristmas,andtherewithhighsolemnityobservedthatholytide;andbeingpassinggrievedtoseetheruinofthechurchesandhouses,whichtherageorthepaganshaddestroyed,herebuiltthem,andrestoredthecitytoitsancienthappystate.
