           ForthiswastheswordofDavid,KingofIsrael,andSolomonhissonmadeforitthismarvellouspommelandthiswondroussheath,andlaiditonthisbedtillthoushouldestcomeandtakeitup;andthoughbeforetheesomehavedaredtoraiseit,yethavetheyallbeenmaimedorwoundedfortheirdaring.”

           ThentheyallprayedSirGalahadtotakethesword,andsoanonhegrippeditinhisfingers;andthemaidengirtitroundhiswaist,saying,“NowreckInotthoughIdie,forIhavemadetheetheworthiestknightofalltheworld.”

           “Fairdamsel,”saidSirGalahad,“yehavedonesomuchthatIshallbeyourknightallthedaysofmylife.”

           Thentheshipsailedagreatwayonthesea,andbroughtthemtolandneartheCastleofCarteloise.Whentheywerelandedcameasquireandaskedthem,“BeyeofKingArthur’scourt?”

           “Weare,”saidthey.

           “Inanevilhourareyecome,”saidhe,andwentbackswiftlytothecastle.

           Withinawhiletheyheardagreathornblow,andsawamultitudeofwell-armedknightscomeforth,whobadethemyieldordie.
