           “Ifnot,”saidArthur,“Iwerenotrueman’ssonatall,forthouartheinalltheworldtowhomIowethemost;andmygoodladyandmother,thywife,hatheverkeptandfosteredmeasthoughIwereherown;soifitbeGod’swillthatIbekinghereafterasthousayest,desireofmewhateverthingthouwiltandIwilldoit;andGodforbidthatIshouldfailtheeinit.”

           “Iwillbutpray,”repliedSirEctor,“thatthouwiltmakemysonSirKey,thyfoster-brother,seneschalofallthelands.”

           “Thatshallhebe,”saidArthur;“andnevershallanotherholdthatoffice,savethyson,whileheandIdolive.”

           Anon,theyleftthechurchandwenttothearchbishoptotellhimthattheswordhadbeenachieved.
