           So,whenSirLancelotsawQueenGuinevererejoicedtohearhiswanderingsandadventures,heresolvedtosetforthyetagain,andwinmoreworshipstill,thathemightmoreincreaseherfavour.ThenhebadehiscousinSirLionelmakeready,“for,”saidhe,“wetwowillseekadventure.”Sotheymountedtheirhorses—armedatallpoints—androdeintoavastforest;andwhentheyhadpassedthroughit,theycametoagreatplain,andtheweatherbeingveryhotaboutnoontide,SirLancelotgreatlylongedtosleep.ThenSirLionelespiedagreatapple-treestandingbyahedge,andsaid,“Brother,yonderisafairshadowwherewemayrestourselvesandhorses.”

           “Iamfullgladofit,”saidSirLancelot,“forallthesesevenyearsIhavenotbeensosleepy.”

           Sotheyalightedthere,andtiedtheirhorsesuptosundrytrees;andSirLionelwakedandwatchedwhileSirLancelotfellasleep,andsleptpassingfast.

           Inthemeanwhilecamethreeknights,ridingasfastflyingasevertheycouldride,andafterthemfollowedasingleknight;butwhenSirLionellookedathim,hethoughthehadneverseensogreatandstrongaman,orsowellfurnishedandapparelled.Anonhesawhimovertakethelastofthosewhofled,andsmitehimtotheground;thencamehetothesecond,andsmotehimsuchastrokethathorseandmanwenttotheearth;thenrodehetothethird,likewise,andstruckhimoffhishorsemorethanaspear’slength.Withthathelightedfromhishorse,andboundallthreeknightsfastwiththereinsoftheirownbridles.
