Hedidnotgiveanyreasonforhavingchangedhismind,butmerelywarnedtheanimalsthatthisextrataskwouldmeanveryhardwork,itmightevenbenecessarytoreducetheirrations. Theplans,however,hadallbeenprepared,downtothelastdetail. Aspecialcommitteeofpigshadbeenatworkuponthemforthepastthreeweeks. Thebuildingofthewindmill,withvariousotherimprovements,wasexpectedtotaketwoyears.
ThateveningSquealerexplainedprivatelytotheotheranimalsthatNapoleonhadneverinrealitybeenopposedtothewindmill. Onthecontrary,itwashewhohadadvocateditinthebeginning,andtheplanwhichSnowballhaddrawnontheflooroftheincubatorshedhadactuallybeenstolenfromamongNapoleon’spapers.
