SuchwastheremarkablestatementofDr.AloysiusLanawhichbroughtthetrialtoasuddentermination.AsubsequentinvestigationcorroboratedittotheextentoffindingoutthevesselinwhichhisbrotherErnestLanahadcomeoverfromSouthAmerica.Theship’sdoctorwasabletotestifythathehadcomplainedofaweakheartduringthevoyage,andthathissymptomswereconsistentwithsuchadeathaswasdescribed.
AstoDr.AloysiusLana,hereturnedtothevillagefromwhichhehadmadesodramaticadisappearance,andacompletereconciliationwaseffectedbetweenhimandtheyoungsquire,thelatterhavingacknowledgedthathehadentirelymisunderstoodtheother’smotivesinwithdrawingfromhisengagement.ThatanotherreconciliationfollowedmaybejudgedfromanoticeextractedfromaprominentcolumnintheMorningPost:
