"Theseconsistedofabeautifulsittingroom,adressingroom,adaintybedchamberandabigmarblebathroom.Andintheseroomswereeverythingthatheartcoulddesire,placedtherewithlovingthoughtfulnessbyOzmaforherlittlefriend’suse.Theroyaldressmakershadthelittlegirl’smeasure,sotheykepttheclosetsinherdressingroomfilledwithlovelydressesofeverydescriptionandsuitableforeveryoccasion.NowonderDorothyhadrefrainedfrombringingwithherheroldcalicoandginghamdresses!Hereeverythingthatwasdeartoalittlegirl’sheartwassuppliedinprofusion,andnothingsorichandbeautifulcouldeverhavebeenfoundinthebiggestdepartmentstoresinAmerica.OfcourseDorothyenjoyedalltheseluxuries,andtheonlyreasonshehadheretoforepreferredtoliveinKansaswasbecauseheruncleandauntlovedherandneededherwiththem.
Now,however,allwastobechanged,andDorothywasreallymoredelightedtoknowthatherdearrelativesweretoshareinhergoodfortuneandenjoythedelightsoftheLandofOz,thanshewastopossesssuchluxuryforherself.
Nextmorning,atOzma’srequest,Dorothydressedherselfinaprettysky-bluegownofrichsilk,trimmedwithrealpearls.Thebucklesofhershoesweresetwithpearls,too,andmoreofthesepricelessgemswereonalovelycoronetwhichsheworeuponherforehead."For,"saidherfriendOzma,"fromthistimeforth,mydear,youmustassumeyourrightfulrankasaPrincessofOz,andbeingmychosencompanionyoumustdressinawaybefittingthedignityofyourposition.
