Atdaybreaktherewasadreadfulnoisethroughoutthecity.Everydonkeyintheplacebrayed.Whenheheardthistheshaggymanwokeupandcalledout"Hee-haw!"asloudashecould.
"Stopthat!"saidButton-Bright,inacrossvoice.BothDorothyandPollylookedattheshaggymanreproachfully.
"Icouldn’thelpit,mydears,"hesaid,asifashamedofhisbray;"butI’lltrynottodoitagain."
Ofcoursedtheyforgavehim,forashestillhadtheLoveMagnetinhispockettheywereallobligedtolovehimasmuchasever.
TheydidnotseetheKingagain,butKik-a-brayrememberedthem;foratableappearedagainintheirroomwiththesamefooduponitasonthenightbefore.
