           “Well,”saidDawson,“youjustwaittillyou’veseenwhat’sinthestables.And,dearyme,youhaven’tlookedevenintotheverynextroomyet!”

           “Whatisthere?”askedFauntleroy.

           “Waituntilyou’vehadyourbreakfast,andthenyoushallsee,”saidDawson.

           Atthishenaturallybegantogrowcurious,andheappliedhimselfassiduouslytohisbreakfast.Itseemedtohimthattheremustbesomethingworthlookingat,inthenextroom;Dawsonhadsuchaconsequential,mysteriousair.

           “Now,then,”hesaid,slippingoffhisseatafewminuteslater;“I’vehadenough.CanIgoandlookatit?”

           Dawsonnoddedandledtheway,lookingmoremysteriousandimportantthanever.Hebegantobeverymuchinterestedindeed.

           Whensheopenedthedooroftheroom,hestooduponthethresholdandlookedabouthiminamazement.Hedidnotspeak;heonlyputhishandsinhispocketsandstoodthereflushinguptohisforeheadandlookingin.

           Heflushedupbecausehewassosurprisedand,forthemoment,excited.Toseesuchaplacewasenoughtosurpriseanyordinaryboy.

           Theroomwasalargeone,too,asalltheroomsseemedtobe,anditappearedtohimmorebeautifulthantherest,onlyinadifferentway.Thefurniturewasnotsomassiveandantiqueaswasthatintheroomshehadseendownstairs;thedraperiesandrugsandwallswerebrighter;therewereshelvesfullofbooks,andonthetableswerenumbersoftoys,—beautiful,ingeniousthings,—suchashehadlookedatwithwonderanddelightthroughtheshopwindowsinNewYork.
