Itwasabighorse,tallandbony,withlonglegsandlargekneesandfeet.Shecouldcounthisribseasilywheretheyshowedthroughtheskinofhisbody,andhisheadwaslongandseemedaltogethertoobigforhim,asifitdidnotfit.Histailwasshortandscraggly,andhisharnesshadbeenbrokeninmanyplacesandfastenedtogetheragainwithcordsandbitsofwire.Thebuggyseemedalmostnew,forithadashinytopandsidecurtains.Gettingaroundinfront,sothatshecouldlookinside,thegirlsawaboycurledupontheseat,fastasleep.
Shesetdownthebird-cageandpokedtheboywithherparasol.Presentlyhewokeup,rosetoasittingpositionandrubbedhiseyesbriskly.
"Hello!"hesaid,seeingher,"areyouDorothyGale?"
"Yes,"sheanswered,lookinggravelyathistousledhairandblinkinggrayeyes."HaveyoucometotakemetoHugson’sRanch?"
