           Whenhewassufficientlyawake,Annixterthrusthisfeetintoapairofwickerslippers,andshuffledacrosstheofficeadjoininghisbedroom,tothebathroomjustbeyond,andstoodundertheicyshowerafewminutes,histeethchattering,fulminatingoathsatthecoldnessofthewater.
