Makingourwayamongthetrees,wereachedthelawn,crossedit,andwereabouttoenterthroughthewindowwhenoutfromaclumpoflaurelbushestheredartedwhatseemedtobeahideousanddistortedchild,whothrewitselfuponthegrasswithwrithinglimbsandthenranswiftlyacrossthelawnintothedarkness.

HolmeswasforthemomentasstartledasI. Hishandclosedlikeaviseuponmywristinhisagitation. Thenhebrokeintoalowlaughandputhislipstomyear.
"Itisanicehousehold,"hemurmured."Thatisthebaboon."
