           Nothingvisible,nothingaudible,hadgivenheranyintelligiblewarningofitsappearance.Silentlyandsuddenly,theheadhadtakenitsplaceaboveher.Nosupernaturalchangehadpassedovertheroom,orwasperceptibleinitnow.Thedumbly-torturedfigureinthechair;thebroadwindowoppositethefootofthebed,withtheblacknightbeyondit;thecandleburningonthetable—these,andallotherobjectsintheroom,remainedunaltered.Oneobjectmore,unutterablyhorrid,hadbeenaddedtotherest.Thatwastheonlychange—nomore,noless.
