           ThreedayslatershewasthesameAngelasofold,exceptthatFreckleswasconstantlyinherthoughts.Theanxietyandresponsibilitythatshefeltforhisconditionhadbredinheratouchofwomanlinessandauthoritythatwasnew.ThatmorningshearoseearlyandhoverednearFreckles’door.Shehadbeenallowedtoremainwithhimconstantly,forthenursesandsurgeonshadlearned,withhisreturningconsciousness,thatforheralonewouldtheactive,highlystrung,pain-rackedsuffererbequietandobeyorders.Whenshewasdroppingfromlossofsleep,thethreatthatshewouldfallillhadtobeusedtosendhertobed.ThenbytellingFrecklesthattheAngelwasasleepandtheywouldwakenherthemomenthemoved,theywereabletocontrolhimforashorttime.

           ThesurgeonwaswithFreckles.TheAngelhadbeentoldthatthewordhebroughtthatmorningwouldbefinal,soshecurledinawindowseat,droppedthecurtainsbehindher,andindireanxiety,waitedtheopeningofthedoor.
